Gabriel Kreuther Wine List Review- 1 Michelin Star

1/2 Bottles

Saint Chamant, Epernay 2002 100- the 2002 vintage was amazing, so this 16 year old 1/2 bottle [1/2 bottles mature faster] will have well developed exotic fruit flavors. The bubble “quality” will also have changed to fewer and smaller. A great opportunity to taste mature vintage Champagne.

Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ NV 112- Billecart-Salmon is known for producing excellent rose Champagne. This NV [non vintage] will have great fresh and tart red fruit [strawberry-raspberry] flavors.

Isabelle & Denis Pommier Chablis 1er cru "Fourchaume"Burgundy 2015 55- Chablis [Chardonnay] is my favorite white Burgundy because of the complex fruit and mineral flavors. This is a Premier Crus Chablis [grapes gown in the special Fourchaume vineyard] so the fruit flavors will be more intense.

Paul Blanck Riesling " Classique" 2016 35- Ask the Sommelier to describe [bone dry-dry-semisweet-sweet] this Riesling. See if it matches with your preferred style of wine.

Fontodi Chianti Classico Riserva 2011 50-The 2011 vintage was very good, so this Riserva [aged longer in oak] Chianti [Sangiovese] will be “lush” with fruit. A great value wine.

Château de la Gardine Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2010 85-The 2010 was an amazing vintage, so this Chateauneuf du Pape will be “bright” with dark fruit [black cherry-dark plums] and spice flavors.

Anne & Herve Sigaut Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Fuées" 2015 105- This Pinot Noir from the village of Chambolle is almost “ethereal”. A red wine that is light in color but with intense red fruit [strawberry+raspberry] flavors. Think of a strong woman.

Albert Boxler Alsace 2013 93- This is not “true” Champagne, but who cares? This sparkling wine is produced by Domaine Boxler in Alsace, where they are master winemakers. If you are entertaining guests, order a second bottle of this “bubbly” and look like a sport.

Drappier "Brut Nature sans Soufre" Zéro Dosage, Urville NV 130- Brut Nature is the “driest” Champagne. Your tongue will feel “dusty” and your cheeks “puckered”.

Saint Chamant "Intégral" Epernay 2008 165. The 2008 vintage was amazing, so this Blanc de Blanc [all Chardonnay grapes] will be “bright’ with intense fruit flavors. A great value for a 2008 vintage Champagne.

Under $100.00

Macon Château de la Greffière Mâcon La Rôche Vineuse - Vieilles Vignes 2014 55- Vielles Vines [old vines] [ Chardonnay]  from the Macon. The Macon is where great Chardonnay is produced for a great price. The best Chardonnay value region outside of Burgundy

Vermentino Clos Teddi Vermentino, Patrimonio, Corsica 2015 60- There are a lot of young and talented wine makers producing artisanal wines in the rocky island of Corsica. Vermentino is a classic “crisp” [high acid] Italian wine with herbal flavors. A great value wine.

Burgundy Michel Lafarge Bourgogne Aligoté "Les Raisins Dorés" 2014 68- Aligote is the sister grape to Chardonnay in Burgundy. In the right hands, Aligote can be amazing. Here is Michel Lafarge a master winemaker producing a fantastic white wine value. I would order this wine!

Bordeaux Blanc Clos Floridène Graves 2013 74- A white Bordeaux [Sauvignon Blanc] wine that pairs well with food. This wine is from the amazing 2013 vintage and the producer has a great reputation. If you have never tried white Bordeaux, this is your chance

Vouvray Damien Pinon "Tuffo" 2015 45- Chenin Blanc from Vouvray. An almost clear colored wine with citrus, apple, and pear flavors.

Sancerre Guy Baudin "Les Charmes" 2015 67- Sauvignon Blanc done with a French aesthetic. This should be a beautiful wine with citrus and pineapple fruit flavors.

Sauvignon Blanc Heitz Cellar Napa Valley 2016 65-If California Sauvignon Blanc you desire, pick this one.. Heitz is a great wine producer.

Greece  Domaine Spiropoulos Moschofilero, Mantinia, Peloponnese 2013 55- Don’t be intimidated to order this Greek white wine. I love Moschofileros! Full bodied with stone fruit flavors [peaches apricots]. Once you go Greek, you will never go back to insipid white wines. At $55.00, I would order this wine.

Burgundy Château de la Charrière "Beauregard" 2013 75- This a very “colorful” and “rustic” Chardonnay from a great vintage. A great value wine.

Cabernet Franc Catherine & Pierre Breton "Nuits d'Ivresse" 2014 89- This Cabernet Franc is great food wine. A lot of dark fruit [dark plums-black cherry-black berry] and herb flavors. You can drink Cabernet Franc young [2014] because there are no intense tannins that are associated with Cabernet Sauvignon wines.

Roero Arneis,  Bruno Giacosa Piemonte 2015 85- I love Arneis white wine because of the “lead pencil” scents and “crispness” [high acid]. This makes it a great food wine for pairing.

Jura Domaine Frederic Lornet "Les Messagelins", Arbois 2013 85- Try this French Chardonnay from the Jura area, with flavors of nuts and citrus. This wine is in perfect balance. Balance is when a wine acts like a wave. The fruit flavor rises in mouth, crests, and then recedes with a long slow finish. A wine that is in balance, is the hallmark of a great winemaker

Crozes-Hermitage Blanc  Alain Graillot  2016 85-I love Rhone white wine because of the floral, fruit, and mineral flavors. This wine is produced by Graillot who is a master winemaker in Crozes Hermitage.

Châteauneuf-Du-Pape Blanc 2015 Clos du Mont Olivet 85- This is Châteauneuf-Du-Pape Blanc [white], which is made with fantastic Rhone valley grapes. A lot of complex fruit flavors and “richness” [a lot of body]. A great food wine and a great value at this price.

Pernand-Vergelesses 2012 Domaine Rollin 90- This is a “rustic” Chardonnay from a great winemaker, Rollin.

Riesling 2014 Hermann J. Wiemer, Magdalena Vineyard, Finger Lakes 95- Do not over look this Riesling from Upstate New York. Because of the cold climate, Riesling grapes flourish there. Hermann J. Wiemer is a brilliant winemaker.

Chablis 2015 Laurent Tribut 95- I love Chablis because of the complex and mineral flavors. This one has a nice “chalky” quality with “crispness’ [high acid]. This allows it to pair well with food. The 2015 vintage was excellent, so the fruit flavors will be “bright” and fresh.

Riesling J.J. Prum Riesling Spätlese "Graacher Himmelreich" Mosel 2012 105-Ask the Sommelier to describe [bone dry-dry-semisweet-sweet] all the Rieslings [German-Austrian-Italian-Alsatian] on the list. See which one matches your wine style. J.J. Prum is a master winemaker in Germany.

Chardonnay Newton Unfiltered 2014 145- If it is California Chardonnay you desire, pick this one. It has honeysuckle and exotic fruit and mineral flavors. This wine is unfiltered so there a “rustic” quality to this Chardonnay. A lot going on in this wine.

Chablis Gerard Tremblay "Vaudésir" 2012 136- Chablis [Chardonnay] is my favorite white Burgundy because of the complex and mineral flavors. The 2012 was great vintage and this Grand Crus [grapes grown in the special Vaudesir vineyard] should  have great fruit flavors. This is not expensive for Grand Crus Chablis, which worries me. I have ordered Gand Crus Chablis at this price before, and have been disappointed. Ask the Sommelier if this wine has faded or is it a steal?

Chablis Château de Béru "Clos Beru" Monopole 2014 175-If the Sommelier implies that the above Chablis is a “shadow of it’s former self”, pick this young and “bright” Chablis.

Chateauneuf du Cape Blanc Château de Beaucastel 2014 195- Are you tired of Chardonnay? Pick this Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc which is produced by the famous  Château de Beaucastel. A great white Rhone wine with intense floral, fruit, and mineral flavors.

Hermitage Blanc Domaine Jean-Louis Chave "Blanche" 2011 175- This is a steal! Chave is the master of red Hermitage, so you know this Hermitage Blanc wine is going to be special. The 2011 was great vintage and this wine has 6 years of bottle age. This is not much more expensive than if you bought this wine at retail. This is a true hidden treasure!

Puligny Montrachet Domaine du Clos du Cellier aux Moines "Les Pucelles" 2013 175- This Puligny [Chardonnay] Premier Crus [ grapes grown in the special Les Pucelles vineyard] Puligny has all the “flinty” and citrus flavors you desire, for a really good price. Chablis William Fevre "Vaudésir" 2004 190- Chablis [Chardonnay] is my favorite white Burgundy because of the complex and mineral flavors. Fevre is a fantastic winemaker in Chablis and this wine is not expensive for the quality of the wines he produces. This Chablis is from the very good 2004 vintage, and has 14 years of bottle age. Have you ever tasted mature Chardonnay? The fruit flavors have evolved and are much more complex.

Trebbiano Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d Abruzzo, Abruzzo 2012 212- This is not your grandfather’s Trebbiano because this wine is packed with honey, stone fruit [peach+apricot], apple, and mineral flavors. A serious crafted wine with a lot of structure.

Puligny Montrachet Henri Boillot "Les Combettes" 2011 315- Put Henri Boillot on your wine radar. He is producing excellent Pulignys that express the true terroir of vineyard where his grapes grow. Terroir is the unique flavors created in the grapes by the soil and surrounding flora and fauna of a vineyard. Here is the Les Combettes vineyard and he able to capture all the “elements” of that vineyard. Boillot is a master at his craft.

Under $100.00

Beaujolais Rémi Dufaitre Côte-de-Brouilly 2014 54-Do not underestimate Cru Beaujolais. This is not the “super fruity” wine that you associate with the name Beaujolais. This Crus Beaujolais from the Brouilly area and this wine can be as complex and nuanced as Burgundy Pinot Noir.

St Joseph Jean-Louis Chave "Offerus" 2014 85- I love this wine. St Joseph is an area where serious winemakers are producing inexpensive Syrah wine. Ask the Sommelier to decant this wine immediately because this wine needs time to breath and “open up”. When it opens, you will enjoy a wine made by Chave, a master winemaker in Hermitage.

Beaujolais Jean Foillard "Cuvée Corcelette" 2015 89- Another great Crus Beaujolais from the Morgon area [my favorite]. An mazing food wine and value. BTW 2015 was an amazing vintage, so this wine will have intense fruit flavors.
